In Vermont, immigrant farmworkers fight to end collaboration between police and immigration officials

The state of Vermont is known for its bucolic cow pastures. And migrant farmworkers have become a critical part of the state’s dairy industry. Many are also undocumented, despite years living in rural communities. With those residents in mind, Vermont has enacted what’s called a Fair and Impartial Policing policy. It’s supposed to prevent state and local police from turning over undocumented people to federal immigration officials. But as Vermont Public Radio’s Peter Hirschfeld reports, body camera footage from a recent traffic stop in Vermont, suggests some officers are disregarding that policy.
