In Spain, Columbus Day is about national pride

Since the late 19th century, Spain has celebrated the arrival of Christopher Columbus to the Americas with a military parade and a day off from work and school. But unlike many countries — including the US — there is still no public conversation about the implications of this holiday in Spain. Some Latin American leaders have been asking Spain to apologize for its involvement in the violence committed against indigenous communities. The World’s Lucía Benavides reports.
