In Myanmar, ‘they have come for the poets’

Since the Feb. 1 coup in Myanmar, the military has detained at least nine poets. They are among dozens of writers and artists who have been allegedly targeted by the Tatmadaw, Myanmar’s military rulers. The World’s Marco Werman speaks with Christopher Merrill, a writer and poet who directs the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa and has led several cultural diplomacy missions to Myanmar since 2004.
