In Beijing, one reporter’s perspective on protests 

The anti-lockdown protests that erupted in several Chinese cities this weekend had particular resonance in Beijing, where the history of 1989’s Tiananmen Square protests looms large. The Economist’s David Rennie has lived in Beijing for two decades, and describes what he witnessed this weekend in the context of the Chinese government’s authoritarian rule.
