In planetary terms, Jupiter looks after Earth like an older sibling. Scientists have spent the past 10 years cataloging planets outside the solar system with similar sibling relationships. That’s because they could be critical in the search to discover if life exists elsewhere in the Milky Way. Host Marco Werman finds out more from Lauren Weiss, an astrophysicist and professor at the University of Notre Dame who led the team that created the catalog, called Kepler Giant Planet Search.
