Mohammed Hamdan Dagalo, better known as Hemedti, was the leader of a ragtag paramilitary force in Sudan that wiped out entire villages in Darfur two decades ago. Under the wing of the country’s autocratic president, he rose through the ranks of the military, getting closer to the seat of power.
