Half of Austria’s regional anthems may have Nazi composers; group wants them changed

A group of Austrian writers say that the men who composed many of the country’s regional anthems were in, or associated with, the Nazi party. They are asking for them to be changed, writing that “it would be a great, exemplary signal” if the new anthems reflected the work of today’s generation. The World’s Sarah Birnbaum reports that the far-right Freedom Party, which is making a comeback in Austria, is opposed to the move.
