On Wednesday in Germany, a court is weighing whether to remove the far-right party Alternative for Germany’s designation as a suspected far-right extremist organization by the country’s spy agency, the BfV, or the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution. The World’s Marco Werman discusses this designation with Christopher Paskowski, who researches constitutional law at Bucerius Law School in Hamburg. Paskowski says the designation is part of a wider debate in Germany over how to address the increasing popularity and influence of a party that some see as anti-democratic.
