Forbidden love at the height of the Cold War

Based on a true story, a new film called “Firebird” follows two soldiers who fall in love on a Soviet Air Force base in occupied Estonia during the Cold War. The pair have to navigate Communist rule, knowing their budding relationship could lead to severe punishment. Now, being released against the backdrop of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, filmmakers say they never could have known how relevant the story would be. The World’s Bianca Hillier reports.
