Famed Russian journalist’s murder is pardoned

Anna Politkovskaya was an enterprising reporter who covered Russia’s brutal war in Chechnya. She was assassinated in 2006. It is widely believed that the Kremlin, even President Vladimir Putin, could be linked to the slaying. Her killer was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2014, but now he’s out. He enrolled to fight in Ukraine and in return for his service he was freed early. Host Marco Werman talks with Keith Gessen, who covered Politkovskaya’s murder trial in 2009, about the sudden turn in the murderer’s fortunes.
