Ex-Salvadoran colonel sentenced for 1989 murder of Jesuits

The World

A Spanish court has sentenced a former Salvadoran army colonel to 133 years in prison after finding him guilty of the murder of five Spanish Jesuits in 1989. Inocente Orlando Montano was convicted of taking part in the “decision, design and execution” of the Spaniards, who were killed along with a Salvadoran Jesuit and two Salvadoran women during the country’s 12-year civil war. Marco Werman speaks with Kate Doyle, a senior analyst for the National Security Archive, which was instrumental in bringing Montano to justice.
