Dresden art heist

The World

Treasures worth up to a billion euros were stolen from a Dresden museum in Germany Monday. Thieves allegedly started a fire nearby, which led to a breakdown of electrical power and failure of security alarms that allowed them to break into the Grüne Gewölbe, or Green Vault, at Dresden’s Royal Palace. Hundreds of artifacts were stolen. Police are calling the breakin the largest art heist in postwar history.
