Do political appointments at the State Department undercut diversity?

The Biden administration has signaled that diversity at the State Department is a priority. Part of that effort led to last month’s appointment of Gina Abercrombie-Winstanley as the State Department’s first chief diversity officer. Critics say that these types of appointments often come as rewards to political allies and top donors — and undercut diversity. Host Marco Werman speaks with former US ambassador Piper Campbell, who is also a co-chair of Women Ambassadors Serving America, a group seeking to improve US foreign policy and diversity.
