Spain is considered to have one of the most liberal abortion laws in Europe. Abortion is legal until the 14th week under any circumstance and until the 22nd week for health reasons — plus, it’s free of cost under the public health care system. But abortion rights activists say there’s still work to be done: Some Spanish provinces have no doctors willing to perform an abortion and undocumented migrants can’t access abortion care. Plus, there’s an increasing presence of outlier anti-abortion groups that want to strip back rights – many with ties to the US. The World’s Lucía Benavides has this story from Barcelona.
