Danish folk high schools offer lessons in peace

The World

Imagine a school with no exams or grades — where students sing together and talk about global affairs every morning. That’s exactly what happens at this Danish folk high school in Elsinore, Denmark. The Danish folk high school system is renowned for its focus on democracy, civil-society building and democracy, even drawing the attention of American civil rights leaders like Myles Horton and Martin Luther King, Jr. The World’s Amanda Lichtenstein traveled to the International People’s College to talk with students and staff about their experiences.
