On Tuesday, UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, warned that school closures as a result of COVID-19 “could waste untold human potential, undermine decades of progress, and exacerbate entrenched inequalities.” More than 1 billion children in some 160 countries are missing school this year. Even before the pandemic hit, the world faced a “learning crisis” with well over 250 million children out of school. Host Marco Werman speaks with Emiliana Vegas, co-director of the Center for Universal Education at the Brookings Institution.
