The art world is grieving after the death of conceptual artist Christo. Known by just his first name, Christo brought larger-than-life installations to public spaces around the world. The Bulgarian-born artist wrapped the oldest standing bridge in Paris in silky fabric, placed 3,000 umbrellas across Japan and the US, and lined 23 miles of New York City’s Central Park with saffron-curtained gates.
