Leran Zhao is from a rural part of Shaodong, China — his dream school was always the University of California, Berkeley. But the path he took to get there is one that an increasing number of international students are taking — going to a community college for the first two years. Zhao, who will graduate from Berkeley this year, estimates he saved his family $120,000.
