Since President Joe Biden’s first day in office, US-China relations have been both a priority and a concern. This week, Taiwan has been at the center of attention because China has revved up the pressure there, with military exercises by air and sea. Earlier this week at a news conference, Taiwan’s foreign minister Joseph Wu said, “We are willing to defend ourselves, and it’s without any question and we will fight the war if we need to fight the war.” Host Marco Werman talks with Thomas Shugart, of the Center for a New American Security, who previously served in the US Navy for more than 25 years.
