Beavers reminded Canadians of their “national animal” status last weekend when they gnawed through some fiber cables and shut down internet service for about 900 customers in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. The beavers seemed to be operating on instinct, rather than mischief (chewing and building dams and lodges is their job after all), but their feat caused many to wonder.
