The government of Sudan has announced that it will hand over its former president, Omar al-Bashir, to the International Criminal Court in the Hague. In 2009, al-Bashir had become the world’s first sitting leader to be indicted by the court for crimes against humanity, after conflict in the Darfur region killed hundreds of thousands. Many Dafuris took part in the uprising that ousted al-Bashir last year, but the legacy of the Janjaweed still hangs over Darfur itself. The BBC’s Mohanad Hashim reports.
