Authorities face questions after South Korea’s ‘crowd crush’

The World

South Korea is entering a national week of mourning after 153 people died on Saturday night while celebrating Halloween. They were killed in a “crowd crush” event: a large mass of people crowding into a small alley lined with bars and nightclubs, packing in so tight that many were crushed and suffocated. The grief is heavy in South Korea — but the public is also demanding answers from the government, which was supposed to control large, party-going crowds. The World’s Patrick Winn reports.
