As temperatures rise, farmworkers ask for federal heat safety protections 

Farmworkers endure unpredictable hot weather conditions. Advocates are supporting a federal measure to ensure workers are safe in the fields. The new bill just reintroduced in Congress is aiming to protect workers in high-heat environments with measures such as access to water, paid breaks in shaded environments, and secure protection from employer retaliation. Advocates say this legislation is an essential first step to protect the nearly 2.4 million hired farmworkers from preventable heat-related injury and death. The World’s Daisy Contreras has the story.
