In France, Amazon.com lost its appeal of a court ruling that forced the e-commerce giant to shut down its six warehouses. The original ruling ordered Amazon to restrain its deliveries to only non-essential goods — a limitation too complicated for Amazon to define as it risked a fine of about $1 million. On Friday, a French appeal court upheld the first order that the e-commerce giant wasn’t doing enough to protect its workers against COVID-19 — which Amazon denies — and restricted the company to deliveries of food, pet food, health, and computer items — if Amazon fails to conform to these standards it risks a fine of more than $100,000. The world’s largest Seattle-based retail giant has said it will keep its warehouses in France closed for now, as it re-evaluates the situation.
