A legendary Chinese department store in New York City

The World

The Pearl River Mart was founded by Michelle Chen’s parents back in 1971. A couple years ago, it shut its doors, for what seemed for good at the time. But it wasn’t for good. Michelle Chen and Feet in Two Worlds bring us the personal story behind the reopening of this New York City institution. This story comes to us from Feet in 2 Worlds, a project of the Center for New York City Affairs at The New School that brings the work of immigrant journalists to public radio and online media.  This story was originally produced and edited by Jocelyn Gonzales and Rosalind Tordesillas. More about Pearl River Mart here.
