The World

Britain is becoming more religiously diverse and that change can be seen in many ways. Since 2001, the number of Muslim students in British schools has almost doubled. This year a school in East London provoked a huge online petition when it banned girls under the age of 8 from wearing the hijab. The school argued that there is no religious requirement for very young girls to wear a headscarf — and that it was a question of gender equality. Parents argued that they were being discriminated against.
