Record cold kills Mongolian herds

Mongolia’s nomadic herders are facing a savage dzud winter, after an estimated 5 million livestock have frozen to death. Scientists say this lethal phenomenon — extreme cold and heavy snow following a summer drought — is occurring more frequently and is linked to climate change. Host Marco Werman speaks with Morris Rossabi, professor of Mongolian history at Columbia University and City University of New York, about the impact on many of Mongolia’s one million herders.
