When democracy came to Bhutan

A new film set in the Kingdom of Bhutan, 2006, tells a story of tradition and modernity at odds as the king abdicates and imposes democracy practically overnight. The film, “The Monk and the Gun,” follows a Bhutanese and an American caught up in the excitement and confusion as Bhutan becomes the world’s newest democracy. Host Carol Hills speaks with Pawo Chorning Dorji, who wrote and directed the film on location in Bhutan. No spoilers.
