South Korea votes to ban dog meat sales as popularity grows for house pets

The World

South Korea’s parliament has passed a law to ban the sale of dog meat, which was once widely eaten in the country. More than 1,000 small farms raising canines for food will have to shut down by 2027. Dog meat restaurants, which cater to older generations, will also have to close. As The World’s Patrick Winn reports, South Korean animal rights activists are thrilled with the new law.
