Popular painkiller at center of legal action in Spain

Spain’s government is facing legal action over a popular painkiller that has been linked to severe side effects among expats in the country. The drug metamizole, commonly sold under the brand name Nolotil in Spain, is banned in several countries, including Britain, the US, India and Australia. A patients group says adverse reactions to the drug, particularly among Britons, have led to sepsis and organ failure. It’s the most popular prescription painkiller sold in Spain.
