Mayor takes on climate change in Freetown, Sierra Leone

Lethal landslides, coastal erosion, annual flooding and extreme heat. Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone in West Africa, has them all. Tackling these symptoms of climate change is the priority for Mayor Yvonne Aki-Sawyerr. She spoke with The World’s Carolyn Beeler at the UN General Assembly this fall, about her transformation plans that have vaulted Freetown’s climate solutions to global prominence.
