Back in May, Thai voters picked a young progressive politician to become prime minister. But the military powers that be were unwilling to give him a shot as government leader. So, they paved the way for Srettha Thavisin to be named Thailand’s new prime minister on Tuesday. Interestingly, he’s from a party that has long promised to stand up to the country’s military elites.
