In Myanmar, rappers are considered the artistic arm of a revolution to bring down the ruling military through armed rebellion. Rap Against Junta is a collective of lyricists who work under pseudonyms and change locations frequently, lest they’re caught with recording gear or hard drives full of anti-government rhymes. Their purpose: articulating the anger Myanmar people feel towards the junta, which seized power in 2021, crashing the economy and sparking an uprising. The World’s Patrick Winn reports.
