Raba’a massacre recalled a decade later

The Raba’a massacre occurred exactly a decade ago today in Egypt. The Egyptian military cracked down on supporters of former President Mohamed Morsi, resulting in close to 900 deaths. Morsi had been removed in a military coup the month prior, following protests against his rule. The World’s Carolyn Beeler spoke with Amr El Afifi, a research manager with the Freedom Initiative, about the massacre and how the violence from a decade ago is understood as a turning point in Egypt’s recent history.
