Ecovillages in Denmark are refuge for Ukrainians fleeing war

Days after the first bombs exploded in Ukraine last year, a group of ecologists and activists in Denmark and Ukraine forged the Green Road, an interactive map of ecovillages that were willing to host displaced Ukrainians. Over the last year, the Green Road project has helped over 3,000 displaced Ukrainians find safe housing in ecovillages throughout Ukraine and across Europe. The World’s Amanda Lichtenstein traveled to Hallingelille, an idyllic ecovillage in rural Denmark, where a handful of Ukrainians are restarting their lives and adapting to Danish society while continuing to sustain ecovillages back home.
