Scientists get a thrilling new look at the Earth’s mantle

Scientists are going somewhere uncharted — deep into the Earth. In a scientific first, an expedition floating over the Atlantic Ocean has successfully drilled nearly a mile beneath the sea floor and pulled up pieces of rocky mantle. These samples will be used to learn more about the origins of life and the geologic history of our planet. The World’s Anna Kusmer talked to a group of the scientists and got more details.
