The Kremlin-backed Wagner Group has been linked to a civilian massacre in Mali, where in March 2022 upwards of 500 people were killed in a military operation in a rural town in Central Mali. The Malian government has denied that any civilians were harmed in what it called an anti-terrorist military operation against an Islamist extremist group.
