US Treasury secretary visits South Africa

The World

US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen visited South Africa this week. The visit comes at a challenging time for South Africa and amid a growing relationship between South Africa and China. South Africa is also planning on holding joint military drills with China and Russia on the anniversary of the invasion of Ukraine. The World's Carol Hills spoke with Joseph Siegle, director of research at the Africa Center for Strategic Studies, about why the US needs South Africa and what it can do to pull it back into its orbit.
