The difficult ‘last mile’ eradicating Guinea worm disease

The Carter Center says Guinea worm disease is close to be eradicated. Only 13 human cases were reported worldwide last year. In 1986, when former President Jimmy Carter began leading the global eradication effort, it affected 3.5 million people in sub-Saharan Africa. But the so-called “last mile” toward eradication can often be the most difficult. The World’s host Marco Werman speaks with Adam Weiss, the director of the Carter Center’s Guinea Worm Eradication Program in Ethiopia.
