Around 750,000 people speak Basque today. They’re mostly in northern Spain, with some across the border in France. The language has been around for centuries, but experts say its origins are still largely a mystery. It was thought that Basque was largely just a spoken language, not written, up until the modern era. But a new archeological discovery near Pamplona, Spain, has linguists thinking differently now.
