In Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo, on Thursday night, security forces cleared out a protest camp outside of the presidential office. Demonstrators had been there for the last three months, demanding new leadership in government and relief to crippling inflation and shortages of basic necessities like food and fuel. The crackdown on protests came less than a day into the tenure of President Ranil Wickremesinghe. It’s being widely condemned. Host Jason Margolis speaks with The World’s Carolyn Beeler, who’s reporting from Colombo.
