Since the start of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, it’s been difficult to pin down exact casualty numbers. This has especially been true on the Russian side. But even according to Russia’s official numbers, some evidence suggests that casualties among Russian ethnic minorities are disproportionately high. Russia contains nearly 200 different ethnic groups. One such group is called Buryats, from the Buryatia region in eastern Siberia.
