German court sentences Syrian colonel to life in prison for war crimes

The World

A court in the German city of Koblenz has sentenced a former Syrian army officer to life in prison. Anwar Raslan had been found guilty of war crimes before defecting from the Assad regime in 2012. The World’s host Marco Werman spoke with Omar Alshogre, a survivor of Syria’s prisons, about his reaction to the sentencing, as well as the potential impact of this case on human rights for Syrians.
