The last kampong in Singapore

The gleaming city-state of Singapore was once an island of villages, known by the Malay word, kampongs. The often overcrowded villages were deemed disgusting by the government. In its rush to modernize, all but one was eventually razed to make way for skyscrapers and shopping malls.
