The military band playing at Angela Merkel’s farewell ceremony Thursday has been instructed to play three songs selected by the outgoing chancellor. One of them is a 1974 song by the then East German punk star Nina Hagen. The World’s Marco Werman looks into the song, and its possible significance at the end of Merkel’s 16-year tenure.
