Russian journalist found guilty for ‘justifying’ terrorism

The World

A court in western Russia found journalist Svetlana Prokopyeva guilty Monday over a column she wrote in 2018 that explained potential motivations behind a 17-year-old anarchist blowing himself up outside of a local FSB headquarters. The prosecution says Prokopyeva's column “justified terrorism” and defied Russia's anti-terrorism law. Host Carol Hills speaks with reporter Charles Maynes, who was at the courthouse today. Maynes says although Prokopyeva isn't being sentenced to jail time, it still sends a threatening message to journalists in Russia.
