One of the memorials to the Belgian resistance is a stained-glass window, installed in 1953 at the National Basilica in Brussels, which bears the Comet Line’s insignia. The insignia includes a falling plane, to represent Allied aviators downed by Germany who Comet’s “stars” would guide back home. Some 800 allied servicemen were assisted by Comet helpers in their escapes or evasions during the course of World War II. The motto “Pugna Quin Percutias” roughly translates from Latin as “Fight Without Blows”. (Teri Schultz/GlobalPost)
