Heavy rains in Southern Brazil have caused landslides that killed 12 people this weekend, the BBC reports. In Brazil’s southern-most state, Rio Grande do Sul, officials have declared a state of emergency for seven cities. Some 40,000 people have been affected by the rains and hundreds have been left homeless.
