Queensland braces for flooding

Queensland braces for more flooding as Tropical Cyclone Oswald dumps heavy rain on the Australian state.

The bad weather is expected to head towards the state's capital, Brisbane, BBC News reported.

According to Al Jazeera English, about 17 people have been injured and at leas 150 homes have been damaged from the severe weather, which caused six tornadoes over the weekend.

On Sunday, Queensland Premier Campbell Newman visited the town of Bargar to inspect damage. "I certainly suggest that people should be helping friends, relatives, one another, taking people in who have been displaced from homes and of course trying to lend a hand wherever we can," Newman told reporters.

According to New Zealand news website Stuff, Newman stressed that the floods would not be as devastating as the floods of 2011 which killed over 35 people and resulted in $6 billion worth of damage.
