Pregnant New York bride killed day before her wedding

A New York woman, who was eight months pregnant and due to get married tomorrow, was found murdered in her home, police said.

The New York Post reported Vindalee Smith, 38, a mother-of-four, was found unconscious with stab wounds to her neck inside her apartment in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, about 9.30am.

Her oldest daughter, Monique, arrived as police were at the scene, and collapsed in shock, a neighbour said.

"She fell on the floor and couldn't get up," the neighbour told The New York Post.

“It was so sad. She came for a baby shower and a wedding — but now she has to stay for a funeral.”

CBS News reported Smith had been preparing to celebrate a baby shower tonight, and her wedding was to be held tomorrow, Sunday.

She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

Investigations are continuing into a motive for the murder.
